<p>One of my favorite smells is pecan pie baking in the oven. It brings back memories of the kitchen during thanksgiving and makes me so very happy! I love pies and pecan pie is such a fun, unique pie. My recipe calls for honey in place of corn syrup. I think honey adds another layer of rich flavor while still sweetening as well as creating that caramel like texture filling. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="800" height="1200" data-id="2871" src="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-43.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2871" srcset="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-43.jpg 800w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-43-200x300.jpg 200w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>
</figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ingredients For Pecan Pie</h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Pecans</h3>

<p>You can use pecan pieces or pecan halves for this recipe. I use the pieces. The pieces make it easier to chew in my opinion. If you do use pecan halves I suggest dividing the the pecan and chopping half of them while keeping the rest to make a pretty design on the top of the pie. </p>

<p><em><strong>Can you substitute pecans with other nuts?</strong></em><br>Yes you can! I had a friend who was allergic to pecans and so she always made a walnut pie for the holidays. I&#8217;ve seen recipes for walnuts pie, sliced almonds pies, and even macadamia nut pies all with the same ingredients as pecan pie recipes. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1200" height="800" data-id="2833" src="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-05.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2833" srcset="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-05.jpg 1200w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-05-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></figure>
</figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Brown Sugar</h3>

<p>You can use brown sugar or white sugar for your pie but I like the molasses flavor from the brown sugar. I think the brown sugar and pecans pairs so beautifully together, along with the honey of course. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Butter</h3>

<p>Butter is important to both the texture and the flavor. One day I would like to try this recipe out with coconut oil. I think the texture would stay the same and the slightly nutty flavor form the coconut oil would fit right in with the other flavors. I have yet to try coconut oil as a substitute so if you try it let me know how it turns out in the comments. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="800" height="1200" data-id="2832" src="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-04.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2832" srcset="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-04.jpg 800w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-04-200x300.jpg 200w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="1200" data-id="2831" src="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-03.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2831" srcset="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-03.jpg 800w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-03-200x300.jpg 200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>
</figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Honey</h3>

<p>I use honey instead of corn syrup for my pecan pie. I love the flavor of honey and it just so happens to be way healthier than corn syrup. I&#8217;ve seen recipes also use maple syrup, but I have yet to try it. I do think it would be wonderful. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Eggs</h3>

<p>The eggs help keep the sugar and honey from caramelizing too much and making the nuts candy hard and un-chewable. They also help hold together the pie so that it not a crumbly mess. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-4 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1200" height="800" data-id="2829" src="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-01.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2829" srcset="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-01.jpg 1200w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-01-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></figure>
</figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Vanilla &amp; Salt</h3>

<p>Vanilla and salt for flavor! You don&#8217;t need much to enrich the flavor of the this pecan pie and you could add more of either on to make a bold statement. Maybe adding a little extra salt for a salted caramel pecan pie, or adding more vanilla for a sweeter undertone. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Flour OR Cornstarch</h3>

<p>Just a tablespoon or so of some flour or cornstarch keeps the filling from becoming runny. Just a little goes a long way, we don&#8217;t want a cake like texture. I go back and forth all the time with using flour and cornstarch. They both do the job, as to which one you use is purely preference. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-5 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1200" height="1200" data-id="2864" src="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-36.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2864" srcset="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-36.jpg 1200w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-36-300x300.jpg 300w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Pecan-Pie-36-360x361.jpg 360w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></figure>
</figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How To Make Honey Pecan Pie</h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Step One: Make Pie Crust</h3>

<p>Make your pie crust! I usually make my crust a day or even a week before I&#8217;m making my pie. I keep the crust in the back of the fridge till I&#8217;m ready to make my pie. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-6 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><a href="https://embracingthehome.com/perfect-pie-crust-recipe/"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1080" height="1920" data-id="2561" src="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/4-1.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-2561" srcset="https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/4-1.jpg 1080w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/4-1-169x300.jpg 169w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/4-1-576x1024.jpg 576w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/4-1-768x1365.jpg 768w, https://embracingthehome.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/4-1-864x1536.jpg 864w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></a></figure>

</figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Step Two: Melt Butter, Sugar and Honey</h3>

<p>In a sauce pan heat up butter, honey and brown sugar until the sugar is melted and it starts to bubble. You don&#8217;t need to boil and caramelize you filling yet, this step is just so the these three ingredients are completely combined. Take off heat and let cool down. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Step Three: Prepare Pie Crust</h3>

<p>While the hot filling is cooling is when I roll out my pie crust and mold it into the pan. Place your prepared pie pan in the refrigerator while you mix the other ingredients together. We want our pie crust to stay cold. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Step Four: Mix All Ingredients Together</h3>

<p>Once the butter, sugar and honey mixture has cooled down add the eggs, flour, vanilla and salt and mix thoroughly. Add the pecans. Pour the filling mixture into your prepared pie pan and bake! </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Step Five: Bake </h3>

<p>Bake the pie at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. We want the crust to get hot quickly at a high temperature so that the butter can do its work in making a flaky crust. After the first 10 minutes reduce the temperature to 350 degrees and bake for another 30 minutes. At this time also place foil or a pie shield over the edge of the crust so that it doesn&#8217;t burn. </p>

<p>Nuts.com is probably the first place you are going to shop for groceries but this month my Azure Standard order contained mostly of nuts and baking goods. When comparing prices I went to Nuts.com, they specializes in nuts and carries lots organic options. Nuts.com carries candied nuts, dried fruit, chocolate covered fruit, baking essentials and much more. Now, I know Nuts.com may not be a household known online store but they do well in what they specialize in and that is mostly nuts. BUT nuts.com is expensive!</p>

<p>Azure Standard doesn&#8217;t specialize in nuts or in candied items but in organic, non-GMO bulk groceries. I love their mission and what they believe about the importance of the quality of food we consume. Azure is first family orientated and believe in making their prices affordable for all. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Little About Azure</h2>

<p>Azure Standard runs like a co-op. They deliver their goods once a month to delivery drop locations throughout the United States. When you make an order you are committing to meet the delivery truck at the drop location and pick up your order straight off the truck.</p>

<p>Azure Standard is known for and believes in the benefit of organic foods. Although they do have some non organic products. They are also known for the ability to order bulk quantities but they also offer smaller or regular sized quantities for their products. Flour for example, their organic <a href="https://www.azurestandard.com/shop/product/food/flour/unbleached-flour/all-purpose-flour-unbleached-organic/11444?package=FL080&amp;a_aid=5febeb75ec">all purpose flour</a> has size options of 30oz, 5lbs, 10lbs and 25lbs. I buy 25 lbs at a time.</p>

<p>Azure Standard is a family and community motivated company. They strive to provide affordable and healthy food to their customers. From the why they grow their organic foods to the way the deliver, their motivation is for the benefit of the family and community.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Buy Organic</h2>

<p>Organic foods can be expensive! And the question that always comes to my mind when seeing the price difference at the store is… “is organic actually worth this price?”. Is organic food worth the money? How much does it affect our health? Aren’t the labels out there all just a scam? In order to determine if organic foods are best for you, you will have to evaluate your own health conditions and your financial state.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Does Organic Foods Have Higher Nutrition Values?</h3>

<p>The research is conflicting… Some say yes, some say no. I say yes and this is why.</p>

<p>What they have found to agree on is that organic foods have more antioxidants. Antioxidants help our body fight off free radicals. Free radicals can be very dangerous to our bodies and DNA causing cancer. Antioxidants help fight that from happening. Organic foods are a great source for antioxidants where conventional foods are not. Check out Healthline’s “<a href="https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/what-is-organic-food">What Is Organic Food, and Is It Better Than Non-Organic Food?</a>” for more information.</p>

<p>Antioxidants not only protect our bodies but also protect the plant from disease. Non organic plants have chemical pesticides sprayed on them to protect them. By doing this the plant does not need to produce as much antioxidants. Organic foods are not sprayed with these chemicals and create their own protection through antioxidants. When we eat these foods the antioxidants in them also aid our own health.</p>

<p>There more I could say about the benefits of organic food but that will have to wait. Comment below if you have any question, I’d be happy to answer them.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="recipe">Price Comparison</h2>

<p>Nuts are expensive! Almonds, pecans, walnuts they are full of nutrition and good things but cost so much. Here I am comparing the price of pecans, almonds with Azure Standard, Nuts.com, Costco and Walmart. The of my September haul I compare only with nuts.com. You can see a full comparison with Walmart and Costco on my other price comparison posts. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">In Summary </h2>

<p>Don&#8217;t buy nuts from nuts.com&#8230;. They are too expensive! Our Azure pick up is in town and the closest Costco is only 25 minutes away. We will continue to shop there rather then the specialized online stores. </p>
